Sinus
Care Instructions
Instructions for Care of Your Sinus
Occasionally, the removal of an upper tooth will result in
the creation of a small opening into the sinus, which communicates
into the mouth. This occurs because your sinus is unusually
large; your roots are long, or a combination of both. This
has happened in your case. The gums have been tightly stitched
over this hole to close it, but special care must be taken
to allow this to completely heal.
The following instructions will help you care for this area
while it heals:
- DO NOT blow your nose for TWO
WEEKS.
- Take antibiotics and other medications as directed.
- Avoid hard coughing or suppressing a sneeze. This may
increase the air pressure in the sinus. If you must sneeze,
open your mouth wide.
- DO NOT smoke or use a straw for TWO
WEEKS!
- Eat a soft diet for TWO WEEKS.
- DO NOT rinse the mouth vigorously for
several days.
- Some bloody discharge from you nose is normal and not
of concern. This may continue for 2-3 weeks.
- In most cases, the opening heals without any problems.
However, in rare cases the opening does not close and may
require further surgery to close.
If you have any problems or questions,
please feel free to call the office. If it is after business
hours, there will be a number provided for emergencies on
our recording. |
